Shaw’s works are abundant with subtle humour and depict ordinary folks from quotidian life. The composition has vibrant and warmer colour pallets, whereas the figures are highly stylized and shed light on Shaw’s tendency to emphasise the subject’s physical characteristics and even the intricate details of their clothes and drapes. The middle-class babu culture of late 19th and 20th century Bengal remained the recurrent theme with a satirical take in Shaw’s oeuvre.
