In this rare work, G.R. Santosh departs from his well-known tantric motifs to explore Islamic calligraphy as a visual language. The painting’s swirling, embossed forms recall sacred Arabic scripts, yet resist legibility — transforming words into pure abstraction. This approach mirrors the Hurufiyya movement, which treated calligraphy as spiritual form rather than text.

Divided into light and dark halves, the painting reflects Santosh’s enduring fascination with duality and cosmic balance. It also gestures toward Kashmir’s unique spiritual synthesis, where Sufism and Shaivite Tantra interweave. Through heavy texture, deep symbolism, and sacred geometry, Santosh creates not just an artwork, but a contemplative space — a silent chant on canvas.
