Jamini Roy was an Indian artist renowned for his unique style of painting. He got trained at the Government School of Art and Craft, Kolkata.
In the early 1900s, Roy began experimenting with simplifying forms and bold flat colours. He drew heavy influences from the Shanthal tribe of West Bengal. He made stylistic renditions of their figurations.
He was a decorated artist widely recognised for his skilled artworks. He partook in many solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally.
In 1955, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India.
