Overview
"I would paint my family members when I was bedridden. They were the original models whom I painted for almost four years"

Rabin Mondal (b.1929) was an eminent Indian artist and an influential figure in the modernist art scene.
Mondal's artworks channel the trauma of the Bengal famine in 1943 and the communal riots in 1946.
His artworks, characterized by bold strokes and distorted faces, explored the human struggle and inner turmoil. Mondal had his first solo exhibit in 1961 at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata.
He featured in multiple national and international shows. He was also a founding member of the Calcutta Painters in 1964, and a general council member of Lalit Kala Akademi from 1979 - 1983.
