This acrylic on paper communicates the artist’s robust expression and at the same time it exudes eeriness and silence. The architecture of the city and the river bank, these forms seem to dissolve. Thus making a piece is a quintessential example of why Kumar’s paintings were “hauntingly beautiful”, depicting Benaras in various lights. His handling of the profound imagery from Banaras takes on hues where it is at the same time philosophical and regular but never mundane or boring.
