Thota Vaikuntam is known for his stylistic depiction of men and women from his native community of Telangana. These vertical pieces depict the highly embellished women with bottu(sandalwood smeared) foreheads draped in beautiful sarees. These highly stylised women appear graceful and elegant. The colour black as the colour of their skin challenges the already existing western norms of beauty. Through repetitions of his subjects, the artist explores and evolves his technique and concretises his visual idiom.
