Chandra Bhattacharjee Indian, b. 1960
“We think we are making individual choices but even making most basic decisions are the consequence of our conditioning. it is a charade of freedom”- Chandra Bhattacharjee
Having lived all his life in Kolkata, Chandra Bhattacharjee's works unravel the struggles and the dark shades of human existence. His art carries a spectral quality and may remind one of a film negative, a stillness they possess. The sombre colour palette of his works captures the modern-urban exhaustion and suffering that one goes through in the aspiration of a better life. Sometimes forms of birds and flowers also emerge at the extension of the human forms on his canvases, brilliantly depicting both tranquillity and turmoil simultaneously.
Chandra Bhattacharjee has exhibited in several solo and group shows. He has displayed his works both nationally and internationally. He currently lives and works in Kolkata.
