Jogen Chowdhury Indian, b. 1939

Overview
‘My works have introverted quality with intense feelings. When I paint or draw, I also establish a relationship with my subjects. As a social being, it becomes natural. It serves multiple purposes’.
                                                                                                         - Jogen Chowdhury

Born in neighbouring Bangladesh, Jogen Chowdhury underwent the life of a refugee during the turbulent and troubled days of the partition of Bengal. He has since then risen to the undeniably top echelon of art in India today.
His works present traditional imagery and a more aware approach to the contemporary spirit. Chowdhury's art is abundant in textures and plays in juxtaposition with the block backgrounds, which add intensity and intentional complexity to his works. His artworks are an amalgamation of mediums with a focus on inkwork.
His artworks have gained recognition and acknowledgment globally.
