Lalu Prasad Shaw Indian, b. 1937
"I am not an artist but a painter. I like to paint directly; so initially I look for the structure of a painting, then put up colors and in the last stage, I give the finishing touch."
- Lalu Prasad Shaw
Lalu Prasad Shaw was born in 1937 in Bengal. He received his education in fine arts from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata.
Having influences from the Kalighat 'Babu Bibi' paintings, his works feature ordinary people from everyday life and are replete with subtle humour. The figures are highly stylised with vibrant and warm colour palettes. His figurations are simple yet sophisticated appearance.
Shaw has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions. The Birla Academy in Calcutta and Art Forum in Singapore have his works as part of their permanent collections.
