At Art Mumbai, held at Mahalaxmi Race Course, the Sculpture Garden brought together works that explored materiality, form, and conceptual depth through distinct sculptural practices. Presented by Sanchit Art and Black Cube Gallery, the presentation featured sculptures by Dhananjay Singh, Valay Shende, Neeraj Goswami, and Phaneendra Nath Chaturvedi.
The selection reflected varied approaches to the third dimension — from Dhananjay Singh’s botanical forms inspired by nature’s enduring beauty, to Valay Shende’s reflective horse sculpture constructed from polished steel discs, where technology and symbolism merged to mirror human society and its relationship with nature.
Phaneendra Nath Chaturvedi’s Chaturayatan, a monumental butterfly sculpture in polished stainless steel, drew from ideas of transformation, spiritual growth, and ecological beauty. Inspired by the Monarch butterfly and the symbolism of pilgrimage, the work combined reflective surfaces with vibrant colour to evoke metamorphosis, fragility, and resilience. Together, the sculptures created a dialogue between nature, memory, mythology, and contemporary material experimentation.
