Nandan Purkayastha Indian, b. 1986
“It is always about how we perceive things – someone may see religion in my work, others may see a larger narrative of strength and beauty,"- Nandan Purkayastha
Debopriya Nanadan Purkayastha was born in Assam in 1986. He studied Fashion and Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Delhi.
Ancient Indian mythology and vintage Western cowboy films served as inspiration for Nandan.
His compositions are elaborate in detail, and his colour scheme is usually contrasting. His themes include religious figurations that display his training in draping cloth, hairstyling, and using vibrant colours.
His method of incorporating bright colours with monochromatic designs sets him apart.
Nandan has held several groups and solo shows in Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Currently, he lives and works out of Delhi.
