A Ramachandran, born in 1935, graduated from Kerala University with a degree in Malayalam literature. He then pursued a diploma in Fine Arts from Kala Bhavan, Visva University, Shantiniketan.
His art observed a shift from creating expressionistic works that displayed urban angst to focusing on the tribal communities. His colour scheme reflects the same since he employs warm and lively colours that reflect the indigenous influence.
A Ramachandran has received multiple prestigious awards like the Raja Ravi Verma Puruskar and the National Award for Painting.
