Sujata Bajaj Indian, b. 1958

Overview

"There is influence of both French and Indian art in my work. I use a lot of vibrant colours, but balance the colours with the texture."

                                                                                                                         - Sujata Bajaj

Born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Sujata Bajaj's work reflects their exuberant colour schemes in her artworks. She completed her post-graduation from SNDT Women's University, Pune, and got her Ph.D. from there as well.
Bajaj received a full scholarship from the French Government to study at l'Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris. After this, her art practice gained a new edge and perspective. Her earthy ochres and the skillful use of reds dominate her paintings highlighting her deep affinity for both individual colours and the lively state of Rajasthan.
Her artistic practice showcases abstraction with tribal art playing a significant role in them.
Apart from receiving her scholarship from the French Government, Sujata Bajaj has much acclaim. She has achieved prestigious awards like the Bombay Art Society Award in 1991 and the Raza Foundation Award in 2003. She has displayed in exhibits domestically and internationally in destinations such as London, Paris, Dubai, and Norway.
