Vinita Karim - Paintings and Artist Profile

Overview

"At a deeper level, they are just a simple search for belonging, for a home.
This search remains elusive..."

- Vinita Karim

Vinita Karim (b. 1962, Rangoon / Myanmar) is an internationally exhibited contemporary artist whose work bridges migration, memory, and the poetics of water. Born in Burma and raised between India, Europe, and Asia, Karim has lived and worked across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, drawing on her transnational experiences to shape her visual language. Her gold‑leaf landscapes and line‑based compositions evoke rivers, canals, and seafront cities, often omitting human figures while suggesting rich unseen

Karim’s practice spans painting, sculpture, and installation, frequently exploring the ebb‑and‑flow of water as a metaphor for displacement, identity, and belonging. Her layered canvases, often rendered in gold and subtle tones, connect personal histories with the histories of port cities and trade routes. With over two dozen solo exhibitions worldwide and participation in shows across Asia, Europe, Africa, the USA, and the Middle East, Vinita Karim has established herself as a distinctive voice in contemporary Indian‑diasporic

Art lovers, collectors, and galleries seeking a meditative, cross‑cultural painter will find in Karim’s work a compelling intersection of Indian roots, international journeys, and the lyrical presence of water.
