Sujata Bajaj (b. 1958) is a contemporary Indian artist born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, known for her vibrant abstract paintings inspired by tribal art forms and the cultural energy of India. Her work is distinguished by bold compositions, expressive brushwork, and a powerful use of colour.

She completed her post-graduation and Ph.D. from SNDT Women’s University, Pune, and later received a full scholarship from the French Government to study at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts, Paris. This international training significantly shaped her artistic vision, bringing a global perspective to her practice.

Bajaj’s paintings are characterised by earthy ochres, deep reds, and dynamic colour fields that reflect her strong connection to Rajasthan’s landscape and cultural richness. Her abstract style often integrates influences of tribal and folk art, creating a unique visual language that is both contemporary and rooted in tradition.

Her acclaimed career includes prestigious honours such as the Bombay Art Society Award (1991) and the Raza Foundation Award (2003). She has exhibited widely across India and internationally, including in London, Paris, Dubai, and Norway, establishing herself as an important voice in contemporary Indian abstraction.
