Nandan Purkayastha Indian, b. 1986

Overview
“It is always about how we perceive things – someone may see religion in my work, others may see a larger narrative of strength and beauty,"
-  Nandan Purkayastha

Debopriya Nanadan Purkayastha, known professionally as Nandan Purkayastha (b. 1986, Assam), is an Indian artist based in Delhi who works across painting, sculpture, and apparel design. Since 2009, he has been active as a professional artist, graduating from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in 2009, and has built a diverse practice that merges visual art with design and fashion.

Purkayastha’s work has been featured in notable exhibitions including Kala Sutra Singapore (2025), The Lineage of Light (2025), THREADS OF TRADITION AND MODERNITY (2025), Sacred Whirlwinds (2024), and Art Mumbai (2024). His practice explores themes of tradition, modernity, identity, and material culture, often reflecting on South Asian visual traditions through a contemporary lens.

For galleries and collectors interested in a younger, cross‑disciplinary Indian artist who bridges fine art, fashion, and design, Nandan Purkayastha represents an emerging voice in contemporary Indian art.
