GR Santosh Indian, 1929-1997
“Painting to me is like poetry - timeless and universal.”
- GR Santosh
G.R. Santosh’s love for the Kashmir Valley, where he hailed from, is evident in his art. Santosh's works had traces of western styles like cubism, but his emotional attachment to India allowed him to treat his works with a fresh perspective. His main attention then shifted to an amorphous human form that expressed male-female dualism and supported the idea of Shiv-Shakti.
A heavy influence of Tantra’s philosophy brought a unique awareness that was reflected through his ‘luminous’ colour application and transcendent imagery, paving the way for some stunning artworks around the same theme.
