Overview

"I belong to Tripura. This is one among many states which has been ravaged by violence. I use characters like Tom and Jerry as a metaphor to question the act of violence . The introduction of popular design is itself an artificial device - a ploy to comment on the mechanized world, which produces violence. I introduce violence only in order to be able to critique it."

- Mrinmoy Debbarma

Mrinmoy Debbarma is a visual artist from Tripura. He acquired his B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan.
His most recent works take a political stance where violence is the central theme. Debbarma's works display violent themes often through illustrations adapted from children's cartoons, toys, and other media. His depiction of violence is palatable and subtle but simultaneously conveys manifolds metaphorically.
He creates these artworks using pen and ink as his primary mediums but also utilizes acrylics.
He has received the Lalit Kala Award and has exhibited widely.
